So I just purchased a few birds, seven to be exact. Five of them have pretty bad scaly leg mites. One of them has a lot of missing feathers on its tail and it's very red and scabby. I have pictures here. The butt is also very swollen and Baron of any feathers. Very very red. Does anybody know what this is and what I can do about it?

Is there something I can do for her
I am having the same issue. I have used no peck. I am going to try to use the blue kote. Has anyone gotten back to you I don’t see any replies? I have 19 and 6 of them look like yours. Not sure who is doing the feather eating so I need to look into peepers. Good luck.

Boredom, too cramped, lack of protein are the usual suspects. How big is your coop for how many hens? What is the feed?

Well it's been awhile since I posted that, but I got a rooster and seems to have fixed the whole problem! Not only was I able to integrate the two black roosters with the rest of the flock but I was also able to integrate the original flock with the second block and they all seem to get along together very well. Lol

Hello, We have 19 hens the coop is 12x12 inside the barn and the height is 9 ft so they have high roosts as well for winter months. The run is 20 x15 . We do let them free range in an attached area that is 40x15 so I don’t think it’s crowding. I feed 16% crumbles but I give them sardines or mealworms or even scrambled eggs almost daily. They also get the worms and bugs while free ranging.I am going to look into higher protein feed. I have one hen that is losing on her neck. I scrub the pen clean change bedding monthly and add permethrin.( also check under the roosts at night No red. We adjusted the roosts months ago so they couldn’t reach to pluck from behind at night. I am just keeping at it. I have a pic of Ginger she is 15 months.

Well that is great, I would like to get a Rooster but hubby says no. I don’t think I want more chickens than what we have now. Your girl is beautiful btw.

Everything sounds great! Some chickens are just jerks.
