Very red skin on my rooster! PICS

The feather loss is the key to the red skin. Can`t say why the feathers are missing, maybe hens picking, or lice as mentioned. But the red skin is a result of that particular area being exposed to the sun. That`s what happens. It`s not sunburn or rash, it`s a natural thing for chicken skin to turn red when exposed to the sun. Don`t worry about it.......Pop

My rooster has a 4" diameter red spot around his vent. It looks terrible! It isn't hot but the skin is textured like cauliflower. No wounds. I don't see any mites but did see some lice on some of my gals. Any help is appreciated!

Can you post some pics?

Oh vey! It is just me. I have a hard enough time just getting him and doctoring him. But he is getting better. He is actually letting me walk right up to him and pick him up and swab his butt with Blue Kote. So now his butt is purple. I will try but not sure I could hold him, spread the feathers and snap a picture.

The gals' skin is fine even tho I found a few lice on them. Just imagine a 4" red, textured bullseye around his vent. The vent is fine.

How old is he? Any chance of him going through a molt?

I am thinking he might be getting picked at by other birds. The "textured" skin makes me think ammonia burns from his waste. Bright red is the color of chicken skin that is exposed to the elements-normal. If the skin is kind of brownish and textured then it is usually because of the burns I mentioned. Were his feathers messy back there before they disappeared?

I don't think he is being picked, the skin looks unbroken, no wounds, just red and textured. His vent is nice and clean. Feathers look okay but some are broken off but that seems to be normal. The skin kinda looks like the skin on his comb, that red but a bit more textured than that. No mites that I see, no accumulation of poop and such.

Did U find out what this was. I have an Indian game rooster with exact same problem for years and never found out what it is but slowly he's losing condition altho I'm prescribing him homeopathy as suits th symptoms. Did yours also have a red face and bloodshot eyes by any chance? If you check th poultry doctor book it seems like apoplexy so I've treated it thus eg Aconite and Bella or NV. All seem to help along with hep sulph.
