God bless him for rescuing the two dogs he has. Some people rescue and keep animals because it's the right and humane thing to do. They don't have to perform a function to make them worth saving. YOU sound pretty useless to me, no offense or anything.

A dog who sits there doing nothing, watching their master case after the coyote who stole a chicken is useless TO ME, if I am to have a dog its to protect my livestock and thats it, again, JMO. I certainly wouldn't consider myself useless because I have a strong desire to protect what provides eggs and meat for my family, but if I sat around watching a predator steal chickens right from under my nose then yes, you can call me useless, but not before.

That may not be YOUR purpose for keeping the dog, so give it to a loving home... I, for one, wouldn't want to be in yours!

You call a dog USELESS for not trying to kill a coyote? Are you kidding me? The dog may be "useless" for that purpose, but if it is a loving, caring family dog than what's wrong with that? Just get another one to protect your livestock. If you were a dog, would you attempt to kill a coyote for some chickens that aren't even yours? Dogs that do that are great, yes, but it shouldn't be expected.

Geez! How many times do you have to spark up a perfectly decent conversation? How rude!

I'll stop there.

I was merely pointing out my opinion, I didn't find it rude at all. Obviously we have different ideas of the definition of "rude" What I find rude is you always jumping to conclusions and assuming the worst of my posts. I'm sorry that I don't lie to people to make them feel better.

And no, I don't call the dog useless for not trying to kill the coyote, but chasing it off would have been helpful in that poor cochin's situation. I am not the OP so I can't say what they use their dog for.

Thank you for the friendly post, I know I can always count on you to brighten my day

Yeah, me too. You did a wonderful thing by adopting two dogs who needed you Lance, and that's all that's important. Sorry to have caused a stir, I could have ignored her. Back on the subject now! Good luck to you Lance and keep us updated on how things go for you, I for one am very interested.

ChickieBooBoo, i'd have to agree with you. It's nice to adopt a dog, but i'd need to have one who would at least try to do something..! I raise laying hens for food, not fun...My girls need to be protected by me and my dog if they are in danger.
Yes, dogs are loving, but i need a multi-task dog, eveyone has duties around here, even the cat(rodant patrol)...!
