So to make a long story short we took in some ducks from a bad situation. One of them cannot walk and it's bad bad bumblefoot. She has a sore on her opposite hock as well. She sort of flap-hops around. It's really sad. Still swims well. They had no water at all so it's no shock they have bumbles.

Anyway. I cut into it. Can't get a lot out, I've done bumble foot surgery before on chickens with a lot more luck. Should I try to go in via the top? The top is bulging massively however I don't want to maul her foot apart.
Right now she's getting pack bandages, tonight a honey bandage along with the packed gauze, alcohol to clean it, epsom salt soaks. Also penicillin.

I haven't messed with the hock at all, because A) It's a joint and I hope the penicillin might do it for me and B) she needs to have one leg that isn't cut open poor thing.

Thoughts are appreciated.

Also, how often should I expect eggs from these things? I got a few this morning from them.

I appreciate the link.

Unfortunately she's gone way way beyond the point of any non-surgical treatment. If this does not heal it's going to go to bone and kill her. I do not have kind words about the people who had this poor duck. I've already cut the bottom of the foot open. It had to be done. I've removed some cheesey goo but the bumble surrounds the foot and swells at the top as well, and I think from past experience (had a chicken who actually erupted at the top) that I may have to open it there as well as the bottom to make it heal.

Could you post pics please?

I wasn't able to get pics unfortunately...but I opened the top. There was no cheese stuff to extract.I am afraid I am going to have to put her down

I feel so bad..but if she can't recover, she will die a lingering death. Her foot looks like there is a shooter marble inside it but nothing can be removed, like it sat so long it became part of the foot.

I thing putting her down is the right thing.
Say goodbye to her now.
Hope the link helps.

Thought about trying to amputate it- do you think that might be viable? I am comfortable doing that kind of procedure. Would give her something for pain.
