I have a pekin who is about a year old, last night I lost her sister to unknown reasons. For about a day and a half she just wasn’t acting herself, not eating — but drinking, and just not showing much energy, I woke up this morning to let them out of the pen, and she had passed.

I am scared that this girl is going through the same thing. She seemed fine this morning, but throughout the day, she has lost more and more energy. She hasn’t eaten — she is still drinking — and she just isn’t acting herself. I assumed it was because she misses her sister, but then she started pooping lime green bile. Now I’m worried, and don’t know what to do. I’m terrified to lose her like I lost her sister, any advice would help!

I am so sorry for your loss.:(

Can you give us a run down on what you feed, do they free range? any chance they may have eaten something toxic? does she lay and when was the last time? How do you house them and what kind of bedding? All these things may help. And is a vet an option?

I feed them both normal duck feed from tractor supply, they do free run during the day, specially when I’m outside and can keep my eye on them because they love to venture and explore. She hasn’t laid in a few months. She only laid three or four eggs, and then stopped. Although a few days ago, she did have an egg that was stuck and I had to help her remove. Ever since then she has been laying ruptured eggs, or just yolk. They have a chicken coop house, and it is in a pen that my husband threw together so that we could keep the predators out while we make a large and more secure pen/run for them. It just has grass, dirt, some rocks currently. We just moved two hours to a new house, so I’m not too familiar with the land and what not, and I’m still trying to look up a vet in the area who accepts ducks.

Since she is laying these eggs you described I am thinking is has EYP egg yolk Peritonitis. Or some other type of reproductive infection. She will need some antibiotics Not sure which would be best I'll see if I can find some info.

But that doesn’t explain why my other duck died suddenly, she never laid an egg before, so I don’t think she’d have eyp :(
