Hi everyone. First please be kind. First time owning chickens, and we absolutely love and adore them. We have 8 chickens and a rooster. Our coop is always clean and dry. We completely clean the coop every 2 two weeks. They have good feed. And spend most of their day roaming in the backyard. I We have a silkie rooster. He is the only boy. So he is white and super fluffy. In warm months he often gets spa treatment like baths and haircut. And he always seemed fine. Today my husband went to feed the chickens and found him super lethargic, closed eyes not being able to stand up, not eating or drinking. He brought him in and I figured I would give him a bath first. While he was wet and not fluffy anymore I noticed the following:

1. I noticed he has mites. So i cleaned him to the maximum of my abilities, gave him a through bath, dried him with hair dryer. And most of them feel out dead.( i want to use dermititious earth but nor sure if it’s safe since he is so weak)

2. I notices something wired with his right leg. He seems to have a tumor and something else going on. The whole leg is much bigger/fatter than the other one. Or maybe an old injury we never saw.
3. His nails got super long and I had no idea I need to clip them (just read online) would appreciate tips on that.
4. He is super super malnourished! Like skin and bones. 😭💔
I don’t even know how we did not see that he is not doing well. Just the other day he was walking around and seemed totally fine. I feel so horrible. Our 3 year old is obsessed with him and always says that this is my Fluffy. 💔😭😞
He is so fluffy that it’s hard to see that he is skinny or hurt. I would be so heartbroken if he dies.
his leg though looks super bad.
please give me some advice, what do i do, who do i ask for help.
my husband went to get some pedialite so we can give him some.
someone suggested apple sauce I gave him a bit.

Sorry about your silky rooster. Do you know if he was vaccinated for Mareks disease? The lesion on his leg may be a tumor or it could be an abscess, or feather cyst. Hard to know if the size difference is because of a tumor, or that the circulation has caused swelling. Not being able to stand sounds a little like it could be Mareks, and tumors may be common on skin or inside organs. There can be so many reasons why a chicken can lose weight and become lame, so I would bring him in, give some electrolytes, and offer water up to his beak. Watery chicken feed made wet like oatmeal and cooked egg can be offered after he drinks fluids. If a vet is available who knows chickens, that would be best. Tomorrow, I would get some Poultry Cell or NutriDrench which has vitamins and electrolytes. Keep him inside and warm. I will check back tomorrow. Hopefully @Wyorp Rock will chime in with her opinion.

Thank you so much for your advice. We are in N CA San Francisco area, not sure if i can find a chicken vet but I will try. We are keeping him inside close to the heater. I don’t think our chickens had that vaccine. if he has the disease is there a chance he will make it? I am ready to care for him round the clock 😞 poor baby. I will try and post an update tomorrow.

Such a beautiful animal... please take care of it. I don't have a direct resolution about the issue. I hope there's a veterinarian near you. That looks pretty serious.
