My naked neck rooster is getting really skinny fast and is acting lethargic. The person at the feed store said it is probably not worms. What could it be?

When I have a sick one and can't take it to a vet, this is what I do:

  • Thorough exam.
  • Dust for mites/lice even if I can't see any!
  • Weigh on digital kitchen scale.
  • De-worm with Safeguard for Goats/Cattle (fenbendazole 100mg/ml) 50mg/kg ( .5cc/kg) by mouth.
  • Bring inside where it's warm.
  • If not drinking/eating and crop is empty tube feed fluids, then tube feed baby bird food once hydrated.
  • Inspect poop.
  • Depending on what I observe, I *might* start them on oral antibiotics.
