Very Sleepy and lethargic 3-month-old chicken

I bought Selmet and have been administering it to her. (I finally gave her a name...I'm planning on naming all my hens after First Ladies of the White house, and this little one is named Mary Todd Lincoln.)

I also bought medicated feed for Mary Todd, but she doesn't seem interested in it. She takes the medicated water fine when I squirt it down her throat. I put some carrot shavings in her bowl and she ate some of them, so at least she is getting a little nourishment. That is what I am most worried about. I put the heat lamp over the box because she seems cold (her feathers are always puffed up).

At this point, it seems like there is nothing else I can do, except keep an eye on her and pray she gets better! I'm totally open to more advice if anyone has it. Thanks!

Hi Pro Life Chick - I have no suggestions for you because I was surfing for just what your problem is with my chicken. Same exact thing, but I just noticed it last night. I called the feed store where I bought them and they didn't same much just something about sulfa meds.

We have 7 total in the same coop and they seemed like they were fine and now this one girl same exact think, I put vitamins in her water and turned the light on in their box (they are still big babies) trying to whein them. So said to see he just huddled up and sleepy. Don't want the others to get it so I pick up all greens and just left their scratch I am feeding a combo of chick scratch, medicated and not medicated. Don't know if I should separate her she doesn't go near the flock unless they run by her. Hope someone has an idea:(

Being so young, and that it was wet outside, I suspect Cocci.

What do the droppings look like ? bloody, Foamy yellow ?

I would seperate her and treat the water with Sulmet 12.5 %

2 tablespoons of medicine to 1 gallon of water for 2 days. Then 1 tablespoon per gallon for 4 more days. " IF" cocci, without prompt treatment, many die...

You may have to get her drinking with an eyedropper, with drops on the beak, Avoid the nostrills... She should show improvment in 1 to 2 days... Be sure she has her normal food before her, and the medicated water should be her only source for the treatment time, also AVOID any extra protein and vitamins , during treatment or the medicine won't work, cocci thrives on protein !!
Is cocci the same as coccidiosis? My little polish pullet is also very lethargic but was vaccinated for coccidiosis before being shipped to me? At least believe that’s what it was for. I was told not to give them medicated feed. I’m not sure what is going on with her. It has been very dry here btw.

10 Years later and I'm facing the exact same problem with my 3 months old Brahma, it's been 2 days now.
