Very soft shelles egg.

Have you seen anything similar with your duck that had egg laying issues @KaleIAm ?
I haven't gotten, "tails," on eggs before. But another member, @CoriM has, and she is getting soft shells, too.

I have gotten, "hats," on eggs before. And I took my duck to the vet along with the egg. The vet dissolved the "hat" and looked at it under a microscope. They concluded that it was egg white inside of egg shell material. The egg was from my duck who they decided has a defective egg shell gland. She has never had normal eggs. They are always very large and lopsided. She often goes through periods where she has soft shells.

That's interesting. All of the hard shell ones that I have gotten so far from Pigeon have been completely normal, but one of the soft shelled ones had a little tail before this, but this one is like pretty much only a tail.

The tail is interesting to me. I'm curious what the vet will say about it.

Here is what I've been getting from my duck lately -

I did get some weird eggs when my ducks were new layers. I hope yours sorts it out soon.

I'm not sure exactly, but it seems like for the first couple months I would now and then get a tiny egg, or a super large double-yoked egg, and then some soft-shelled eggs. My ducks will be 2 in May and I have always gotten the occasional soft-shelled egg, maybe one every 6 weeks or so, but the ones with the tails just started recently.

My duck who had been having laying problems for the past several months has been laying soft shelled eggs for the past several weeks with tails. She originally was seen by the vet in October as she was no longer laying her regular eggs, but instead soft. A blood test revealed that her calcium levels were too high as I had been giving her supplements. However, it was not until the past couple of weeks where her normal eggs are no where to be seen. I only see soft shell eggs every other day with a tail. I am awaiting the results of her recent 250.00 comprehensive blood panel to see what it says. At one point, she was laying 2 eggs a day, a good egg and then soft shell in the evening. Just keep hoping our ducks will be okay !!!

@Momma hen quack Oh wow, can you please keep me apprised of your situation? We have a lot of similarities. Did your vet advise you not to supplement calcium then? I've been supplementing it for about 5 days now and I now wonder if I should stop. Is your duck laying the ones with the tail in the afternoons? That is the other strange thing about my duck - most of them are in the afternoon when she typically had laid her regular egg in the morning.

I'm curious if you went to an avian vet? I've had a lot of reproductive issues in my flock so I get their free and total calcium levels tested frequently. My avian vet has explained to me that a reproductively active bird should have much higher than normal range calcium levels. Though maybe your bird's range was outside that even.
