Yeah. Like really stanky stuff. Everything else seems and looks just fine. Hen seems healthy but her poop- evey single dropping- not just the cecal poo, smells awful. Yes, poop always smells awful, but I’ve been around enough chicken sheet to know somethings awry. This is a really tart odoriferous smell. Her poop looks of a normal consistency but it looks dark dark brown and a bit more gooey, sticky than normal.

I had de-wormed her about a month ago with Valbazen, then dewormed her again I think it’s 10 days later. So she was hit twice with it now and it’s been over two weeks since last dose. I did notice this evening her smelly poop appeared to have some tiny white dots in it. Hard to tell if it’s worms and quite honestly I couldn’t deal with the smell to have a good look. (Queasy stomach tonight, perhaps tomorrow I’ll feel better). She’s not been outdoors or in any other pen that any other chicken was in. She also appears to have lost some weight (not much) but I figured this was because she’s in a small one, not enough room to have a real good run around.

I’m wondering, do worms cause stinky poop? The only other thing I can think of is I am feeding her feed that is higher in protein (the feed for all poultry). I’ve also given her plain yogurt. She’s a new hen and in quarantine. I’d like to put her outside with my flocks but not if something is wrong. Should I try another round if dewormer, and which kind?

Does anyone have an idea as to what is up or what I should try to help fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a vet that will do a fecal for you? Pictures might be helpful, but a fecal might help with the best answer for you. Also, is it possible that she's getting into and eating something different? Maybe gorging on something that the other birds are ignoring.

She’s most likely eating new food. I’ve only had her for a month and she’s always been in her own little cage since she arrived (quarrentine). She’s had quite smelly poo since the beginning, but it seems to have gotten worse.

I think I’ll call my vet about doing the fecal on Monday.

I've seen these white dots, and if there are like the ones I see here, I bet it's coccidiosis.

Can Coccidiosis take a long time to get bad or reside in a bird for a month or so? She’s been secluded here for a month. Where or who she was with before that I can’t really say except she was with her last owner for about a month (or was it two weeks- I can’t remember exactly, but it wasn’t too long). And she must not have been very long with the previous owner before that because I was told she hatched this summer.

She just started laying for me about two weeks ago, so I estimate she’s at least 5 months old. Since she’s been with me (a month) she’s never made any contact with dirt/ground, old feeders/waterers, or any chicken pens that were previously used. She certainly could’ve picked it up from her two previous owners areas, but I thought Cocci was a fast acting bug? I’m not sure though. I had a hen die from Cocci in less than 24 hours- horrific! I’m not seeing any signs of illness with this hen though. She’s perky, eating, drinking. Just a little thinner than when she arrived and her poop is over abundantly stinky. When I worked her earlier, I forgot to say, she DID have lots of worms come out. Two distinctly different worm evidence, exactly what kind, I can’t say. White dots was one the other was a worm about 2 or 3 cm in length with the body segregated(?) verigated (?) (I can’t remember the word for it, but it’s like a bunch of puffy segments in a row with a line down the back).

I will have to post a pic of her poo with those white dots tomorrow (If I can find them still.)

She's not broody, is she?

Well, she’s not exhibiting the signs of being super broody- you know, that “demented beach ball” thing, she’s not yelling or screaming at me to get away like a true broody gets. She has been sitting quite a lot (this is due to quarantine I thought as when I let her out and walk around the room she will act like a normal chicken). She also just started to lay. So being in quarantine she sits on her egg if she’s laid one.
