Very Strange Eggs!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=93651

First
thing I would so is switch their bedding to pine (not trying to bash ya about it). Then evaluate their food intake. Are they EATING the feed and shell, or are they passing over it for other things maybe?

Apart from that, I am stumped! I bet when some of the more experienced chicken people here see this they'll be able to offer up all kinds of ideas.

No worries, I didn't take offense. I did what I had to do. I took the picture 3 nights ago and it hasn't happend since so I am crossing my fingers it was just a glitch. But if anyone can point out anything I have missed, it is appreciated. They are still young so I am hopefull it was just a hurried reaction to the next egg coming too soon.

I put my egg shells in microwave to dry and crush them. Then I add them to any veggies and stuff from the house. The egg shells are a great source of calcium. Good luck

I give them egg shell also when I fix eggs. Right now hubby is dieting so there haven't been a lot to give them.

Great, thanks, I am hoping it is just a one time quirky thing!

I read just this morning that cedar bedding was toxic to chickens. Is it possible that the bedding had anything to do with it?

Cedar bedding causes respiratory issues, wouldn't think it has much to do with the egg thing.

I'll bet the wierd egg will not happen again, or not regularly at least. It's something that can happen now and then to any hen. She just had a burp in the middle of things, just keep an eye on her.

my marans they get everything feed wise, and are healthy happy chickens.. when they first started to lay i got all kinds of strange things... wierd shapes, double yolkers, small eggs, big eggs, even 2 like those with no shell.... after about 4 weeks they all started to lay normally..
feed her right and give her time... i am sure all will work its self out..

for bedding i use bermuda grass hay from my horses "left overs"...

This is seen frequently in Commercial Layer houses. She had two eggs ready to be laid at one time and only enough calcium shell to cover one adequately. So her body tried to share the calcium between the two of them.

She should be fine.
