The past two days I have two hens laying on the poop board under their roost. These two have always had a little thinner shells than the other 8 ladies, but now they seem to be laying just anywhere when they used to always be in the next box and it would appear they are also eating the eggs, or at least the yolks. Why would everything be just peachy for months then something weird like this??

I had that happen one week a few months ago. They had the strongest eggs and then bam one day for about two days in a row I found eggs in random places in the coop with the yolk gone and the shells were floppy.

I have them on excellent feed. Didn't know what could be the problem so I added oyster shell to their food, gave them cooked oatmeal a few days and other various treats, which I had gotten away from doing. Within a few days the eggs were back to normal and never happened again. I might add, that I have four hens. They lay usually four eggs a day. When this issue presented itself, I had three other normal eggs every day. So it seemed to only be one of the girls that had the issue. I didn't know who so I just managed them all the same.

Hope that helps. Thats my experience.

Hmm.... can you put some dummy eggs to encourage them to lay back in their original nests? Also, instead of offering oyster shell, mix it in the feed for a little while. That should help with their shells. Also, a little scrambled or hard boiled egg goes a long way. Those are my tips. Check and make sure the birds are healthy. If nothing looks wrong appearance wise, maybe they are a little off from laying so often. Sometimes, I'll get an abnormal egg b/c they aren't machines and do have off days. Good Luck!
