Vet Euthanization

Just wanted to say I'm sorry. It sounds horribly traumatic-- I worked at an animal shelter and our vets euthanized sick chickens with an injection just like a cat or dog, so that was not an unreasonable assumption for you to make. Sounds like that vet should not be working with birds. In any case, your little one is out of pain and at peace now. I hope you can focus on that and not beat yourself up about just doing the best you could to try to relieve her suffering.
Thank you. I will just know better next time if I ever come across a similar situation. Hopefully not though.

I just hope we did right by her. I guess I cant help but feel guilty. Like I should have done more. If there is ever a next time I know what I will do.
I'll be sure to ask what method will be used when i get faced with that situation, too. I sure would have assumed they would use an injection, or possibly a gas mask.
I'm glad you shared what happened.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Having worked in the veterinary field for a number of years now, this is not how I would expect a vet to euthanize any animal. We didn't routinely see birds but we euthanized a few injured wild birds of various sizes. It is difficult to administer the euthanasia solution to an awake bird so they are typically anesthetized with a gas inhalant prior to the solution being administered. However this is usually done in a container, not a bag.

Edit: that all being said, you made a good decision. Don't doubt that. ❤
