I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. I'm feeling better about the situation and feel as I have a better understand of it all now. It may have not been the easiest goodbye.. And right or wrong at least I know she isn't in pain now.

Sort of a side note, but maybe you'd like to know, the info I read this evening said the botulism ducks get is not the botulism in canned food that kills humans. In case it occurred to you that you and your family could get sick from her germs, you should be fine.
Good job cleaning out the wound. I also read that birds who eat the maggots that are eating dead animals (presumably with botulism) also can get sick and die, because the maggots concentrate the botulism! So you protected the rest of your flock by treating Lucy quickly.
