Hi all,

My 5 y/o Buff Cochin was 'diagnosed' with carcinomatosis as some might already know. I posted a lot about this 2-3 years ago when she first got the diagnoses, thinking she was going to pass. The vet gave her a suprelorin implant and an expected few months to live. Its been a handful of years and she has been fine for a long time. Her belly hasn't become more swollen (I believe its a fat pad mostly), her breathing is ok, and shes been up and walking around just fine.

For context, she only laid a eggs for a year until she had a sudden stop around age 2. I took her to the vet and they felt inside her vent, saying they felt bumpiness but observed no egg matter/fluid. They did not do blood tests but said they suspect ovarian cancer which had spread to her coelemic area causing small nodules. The implant was given and she was sent home. She had a very rough time with a hard molt and depression -- the hormone imbalance was too much for her but she did come out of it. I did not get any more eggs for 2 years since.

Now, mid-molt, shes laying again??? Her eggs are small, but the shells are normal... Its very very hot here so that might've come into play but she laid an egg that was the size of my thumb nail (fully developed shell, even had insides). Shes acting relatively fine, her comb looks pinkish and she has a good appetite. I'm just concerned that she won't pass an egg well or it'll be too painful for her.

I have no clue why she would start laying again, especially if she even stopped laying before the shot due to her ovaries likely stopping production naturally. I could take her to the vet and get her a whole new shot, but is preventing it when it might not even happen (that is, a repro malfunction) better than her experiencing another hormone imbalance?

I don't even know if she had cancer all these years. Shes been awfully healthy for a hen with cancer, and she's been living for so long with it... Not to mention the fact that her body is laying eggs. That must mean shes still healthy right...?

Any advice would be helpful! I have experience with the suprelorin implant if anyone's curious too. Thanks.
