Vet prescirbed Baytril 15mg/12 hrs. - Does this do the same job as Tylan?

Note: In the US, Baytril is not supposed to be used for food-producing (including egg production) animals because people who eat the food might develop resistance to the medicine Cipro (which is a sister drug to Baytril) and then not be able to use it as an option in treating urinary tract infections.

In my personal experience, I have used Baytril on my non-laying chickens, have handled them closely (though not eaten eggs or meat from them) for a couple years, & have been tested to still not be resistant to Cipro.

Not all Baytril-medicated birds necessarily develop resistant bacteria, I believe, though perhaps a fair number do. Also, my guess is that thoroughly cooking eggs would prevent any Baytril/Cipro-resistant bacteria from surviving to pass on resistance.

In Europe, they still use Baytril for chickens.
