We'll keep your duckie in our prayers. Best wishes with her- I'd be completely freaked out. I'm glad your vet is knowledgeable - that has to help put your mind at ease, at least a little.

I am so sorry! We've had horrible, horrible, horrible insidences with dogs and our chickens (one almost took out all 20 of our chickens over a couple of days about 4 years ago). Will keep her and you in our prayers.

So glad that the outlook is good. They really can heal up from some terrible things that'd be the end of a human....

Well done on looking after her so well and on finding such a good vet!!

Poor duckie. Animals are suprisingly strong. I hope she heals up quickly so she can get back to being her regular happy self.

I had a duck suffer some pretty bad wounds on her lower back. I don't know what caused it, but it was under her wing and I didn't even notice she was injured until after the maggots got into it (very hot summer days). It was an awful mess, but we cleaned her up and moved her into my shop for some tlc. We cleaned and treated her twice a day or more... it scabbed over, the scab came off and there was clean pink skin! She grew her feathers back and was perfectly normal after that. I probably wouldn't do that for any other duck, but she was my favorite and I was glad to give her more time. She was very tame, loved to eat worms out of my fingers and would follow me around when I weeded to "help" me. I'd say there is good hope for your girl and encourage you to care for her, although her damage sounds worse than Silver's, I was SO surprised at how well Silver did.

I do think my other vet(the non-farm vet) wouldn't have known what to do. But thankfully this one has owned Muscovies and his assistant also used to breed them. He was telling me about a hen he had that developed a huge tumor on her chest and he had to remove it(it's on display in his office too!), she lived on to have a clutch of babies with her mate, an angel wing case he took in.

I will try to post a better picture after a few days. The smaller hole on her back was already closed over by this afternoon so healing should go quickly

. You can bet she'll be getting spoiled with treats to help grow those feathers back, she was nearly finished growing back in before this
