They are all drakes, but a mix of breeds and sizes (which I now recognize as a mistake). What breeds and what sexes are the Ducks? Plus how old?
Wow! Interesting story...They are all drakes, but a mix of breeds and sizes (which I now recognize as a mistake).
The target of the aggression is a call duck, which makes it especially problematic. He has his little call buddy, and there are three runners and a jumbo Pekin.
I've made a little area that only the calls can get into, and they do use it for short periods. Then they pop out and want to be in the mix.
Bottom line, in a flock of calls, his temperament would likely make him dominant. At one time, he would challenge the jumbo Pekin directly, with no provocation, but I don't see the same overt aggression from him anymore.
It was weird, the Pekin lost interest in being leader for awhile. A runner took over, and was persecuting the call.
Now the runner and the Pekin are in conflict, but both are chasing the call around. Flares up, settles down. Some days, everyone is friends. They were all just fine over the winter, so I assume hormones are playing a role.
