Our ducks are sp spoiled, they probably have the best diet possible...
They get crushed oystershells free choice and their food 24/7, which contains- mostly Duck Layer or grower pellets, but also:
Grit, Multi-vitamins for poultry, dried peas (several varieties), sun flower seeds, rolled oats, cracked corn, parrot pellets, cat food, sometimes puppy chow, calf manna, brewers yeast, flax seed, and Red Milo ) sometimes they get corn kibble or alfalfa pellets too.
Then, each night they get fresh food which is a mix of different things like- cabbages, lettuces, greens, corn, peas, green and lima beans, rice, noodles, sometimes toast bits, tomatoes, mushrooms, pea greens, sprouts, mixed berries, cottage cheese, bok choy, napa, carrots, grapes, bananas, egg plant, beets, brine shrimp, feeder fish, earth worms, hardboiled eggs, sea food mixes (usually with white fish, tuna, lobster bits, octopus, and shrimp), along with DE and/or Crushed up cuttle bone mixed in.
they also get a treat each night that they have to work at to get. they have a hanging basket for lettuces and cabbages, while we'll also give them either half of a watermelon, half of a steamed squash/pumpkin as well to pick at throughout the night.
Spoiled ducks eat better than I do! So our vet says it's definitely not a lack in diet. She thought it might be a lack in vitamin D3 since they live indoors, but they get outside time in the back yard or walks. They also get pond sticks and multi vitamins which have D3 in them to help supplement anything they aren't getting from food.
and only victor is having the problem. He had the same problem when he was only 6 months old. Victor also over lays, jst keeps pooping them out only taking breaks to molt. We think Vic is just starting a molt, so we're hoping for a break in eggs at least long enough for him to have his surgery.
