It probably won't be long before you find her sitting on a nest. You can break her broodiness or get her fertile hatching eggs.

She could just be showing signs that she is about to be broody be not quite yet. When she starts to sit on the nest ALL DAY LONG then she is fully broody.I have not seen her sitting on any eggs, just laying hers in the nest box and moving on. She is still considered broody even though she isn't staying on her nest? She has been free ranging all day after laying...
No sooner than you say that....she went right into the coop! Can I just leave her there? She could just be showing signs that she is about to be broody be not quite yet. When she starts to sit on the nest ALL DAY LONG then she is fully broody.
Check her tomorrow to see if she is still sitting on the nest/eggs. Exciting! No sooner than you say that....she went right into the coop! Can I just leave her there?
So last night I removed her from the nest and placed her on the roost. She jumped down once and I put her back up. She stayed up on the roost the whole night. This morning she was on the roost with the others, still making those strange noises. So far this morning she has not tried sitting on the nest and is hanging out in the run eating and roosting with the other hens. She is still making that noise but is atleast not nest obsessed at the moment! Could my removing her from the nest when this happens do the trick? Thank youCheck her tomorrow to see if she is still sitting on the nest/eggs. Exciting!![]()
So do you wanna let her hatch eggs yes or no? It takes 21 days and they will raise the chicks for 4-11 before she starts laying again.Thank you!
What if he wants to keep broody hens like me not everyone wants to break it some people wanna hatch. My broodies need to be in an isolation cage with no bedding for at least 5 days to break a broody spell. A roost in the cage or pen helps, if she goes back to the nest box after 5 days, she spends a couple more days in the broody breaking cage. Ideally, a large dog crate or pen with food and water sitting in the grass or dirt works well. Some raise the crates off the ground for air to circulate underneath to cool their bottoms.
