Videos on BYC Forums

The video advertisements that play in the right-side column of the BYC forum are beyond irritating. They wouldn't be if I had the option of "X-ing" out of them to shut them OFF! Apparently the bulk of these video ads are via Flowplayer and it's a nuisance I could do without...just sayin' ...

I mean, say I'm reading a lengthy post by someone...I'm trying to concentrate on the person's post, and all the while I'm being inundated/interrupted with the sounds of some video ad somewhere on the page.

When I locate it to turn it off I am unable to do so. This is crazy! Can we at least have the option to turn the dang things off?? Or is there somewhere in my account/profile where I can do this?

Those ads bog down my computer so much I can't even run BYC on my eight-year-old laptop...
But that's what the paid memberships are for ( in part ) your ability to turn off the ads...

I'm a little confused by what you said....are you saying that I have to have a PAID membership to BYC in order to turn those dang things off?

I think that's how it works. It's one of the options you get with the golden or platinum feathers membership... Love to be able to turn them off without a membership though because like I said they kill my computer.

So I take it that you do not have a 'paid' membership? I don't either. It isn't the videos that bother me so much, it's the sound that does. I wish we at the very least had the option to turn the speakers down to zero...geez! Thanks for your replies!

I always have the sound muted on my laptop, for everything. I've run my computer that way for years. It's an icon on the task bar, and simple enough to turn back on when sound is wanted.

I suppose some people use sound to be notified of an email arrival or similar, though.

I love BYC. I don't mind ads. I know they are important and I like to read them. But these darn video ads cause my computer to to go into high gear and heat up. I actually stopped coming to this site last Spring because of them. Today I come back and there they are. Still! My computer is fine on most sites unless they are spammy and I guess that is what this site has turned into...a spammy site. Please get rid of the auto run video ads!

We are very picky about the ads we show on BYC. Sometimes ads we don't want sneak through our filters (or the filters of our partnering ad networks) and we have to dig in to find and block them.


We definitely don't allow any auto-play audio ads, so if you see any, please take a screenshot and provide as many details about the ad as possible. This will help us track it down and block it.
