I have never ordered personally but my daughters 4H group last year ordered chicks from them & alot of kids got disqualified for mix breed birds. We joined late so we had bought our chickens else where. This year we ordered from Cackle since it is only an hour drive & we could pick them up. We ordered 30 & got 3 extras & then bought 10 more while we were there but this morning we had 5 doa. Unfortunately 4 were from a faulty waterer & 3 of them were Buttercups out of 5

. It leaked in the box & they were all wet when I found them. The other 1 was in the bantam box & who knows what happened so I cant blame Cackle. We will continue to order from Cackle but I think it is more the fact we can drive up & pick them up. That is a good thing for us the USPS scares me.

Hi Everyone. I ordered from MM and they hatched on Sat, were waiting for me at the post office distribution center for me on Sun. And I live in MA. All were happy, peeping, and alive. They are about a week old now and are doing fine, we didnt loose a single one. This is our first experience with chickens and we're loving it. That being said, I wouldn't know good quality from bad, but I know a chicken when I see one

But, like anything anywhere: individual results may vary.

I've ordered twice and experienced 0 loss in both orders. Not a single DOA. I have some polish from MM (not one of my orders, from someone else's). The buff laced girls are rather nice. The gold laced has peppering in her crest--a DQ. But I don't show these birds, just enjoy them and they are my kid's favorite birds.

Okay I read the whole thread and like Celtic, the whole crooked beak thing kind of scares me...but here are my ??

If the feed store places your order for you (so you don't have to order 25) and there are problems who do you complain to?

Also, if you paid for females and end up with males can you call and complain when you realize it? Since I paid extra for females I'm not going to be pleased with males.

They won't arrive until the 23rd of Mar so I'll have to wait to see how healthy they look.

RSTANG88, I noticed your box from MMM is really set up nicely for winter shipping. The extra cardboard insulation that your birds arrived with looks like a really good idea for keeping chicks warm. Many of the hatcheries either don't pop out all the holes in the original box or tape over some of the holes. Your setup looks like it would really protect the chicks well.

We planned to order from MM a few years ago but never did. I think it is better to pay expensive prices from local people than order and risk the chicks being shipped. I mean, buy the time you pay shipping, unless you mass order, you are better off paying for locally hatched chicks. It is good to support local, respectful, breeders, as well

They only guarantee 95% accuracy on the sex, but they will usually refund/credit the difference in price if you can prove that you got males when you ordered females. It happens. I ordered a RIR rooster last year... one... and wound up with a female. Normally I would be happy about that, but when you WANT a male...
