Howdy,
We have a Coop Co-Op of 4 neighbors that takes care of our 22 hens. The coop is in my backyard so I do the majority of care and paying attention to the flock.
I’ve been taking care of a flock since 2005.
This year we built a fancy new predator proof Coop. The big upgrades, in addition to the structure were:
1) tracking down a source of the perfect natural sand for the pen substrate
2) using the ‘deep litter’ method in the coop itself - 6-8 inches of leaves and wood shavings turned over monthly
3) a fully predator proof environment
I look forward to picking up tips and tricks in the forums. Thanks!
