My tom turkey, Vincent, is always a hit at the park's daycamp for kids. I have been taking him to show off for 3 years now. I think he likes it as much as the kids!

OOPS!! I thought you meant freezer camp. We used to have a pet turkey. I miss him.

What a cool thing for you to do for the kids! What a Beautiful turkey Vincent is. Why did you name him Vincent? I have a young blue slate that the daycamp down the street from me has asked me to bring to their park camp to show. Any suggestions?

Why do we name our crittters? I don't remember why we named him Vince - we had him as a poult, so he is very tame. We name a lot of our animals after people we admire!

We always had him interact with people, so he's not afraid. He used to sit on my lap when he was little. He can hardly fit now!

Just make sure your blue slate is a nice bird. They will get used to being petted and messed with. Expect POOP! It happens, so take paper towels, and maybe some treats for the bird. HAVE FUN!

What cool pictures! When you said camp- I thought you meant, you know, CAMP.
What a neat experience for the kids. Do you have a whole lesson plan kind of thing to tell them all about turkeys?

No lesson plans here. I work with a naturalist, so they do the "formal" stuff. I talk about how long we've had Vince as a pet and turkeys in general. The theme of the day was PRAIRIES, so thats why I took him on that day. Plus we have wild eastern turkeys in the park. Kids ask all kinds of questions too, so we just go with the flow.
