Transport for auction

Most poultry transport cages are wire bottom. A solid bottom increases the weight of the container.
Yes, a solid bottom would increase the weight, but I wasn't sure if chicken wire would support the weight of a turkey.

And sometimes it's worth having it a little heavier if you can use material that's on hand instead of buying something else-- but that depends on what the individual person has on hand, and how much heavier it would be.

They are about 15-20 lbs each and yes I'd have to be able to carry them in. I was thinking about making them out of hardwood too but was worried about getting it in and out of the car
That's much more manageable than the 50+ pounds I was imagining! I was afraid no-one would be able to lift them anyway!

But yes, getting it in and out of the car could still be a bother, because of both size/shape and weight. I assume you've already measured the car, or will measure it, to make sure you end up with a cage that fits.

In my small town not so much. At auction they are going for $90 top. If I try to post that people complain that's too expensive.
A few years ago someone wanted to buy a jake and I didn't really want to sell. So I said $75 and they said too much.
Last year I said $100 and sold one and traded 2 others for $200 in beef.
So never know.

Location depends a lot. You can't get thst kind of money here.
Yes I thought it was crazy. But the first guy was tired of driving around looking for a tom. His son had hatched all hens the year before. Said he had looked as some but they were in a small area. Sounded like the first ones ralphie got.
The second guy bought three 1 year old hens for total of $100. Then he wanted a tom. He mentioned they had raised a steer and got a lot more meat than they thought. They had 2 more steers going to the butcher. So he ended up swapping beef for 2 jakes.
