Lots of people are asking about planting vines to cover the runs in order to provide shade for their chcikens.

So, I thought why not a thread about just that.

Pictures of already established vines and runs would be very helpful.

Or suggestions as to what would be safe and appealing.

I know that beans and berries are used often.

Anyone have any flowery suggestions.
The potato vine works good, green leafs, purple flowers. Dies off in winter. Fast growing.

Please add your suggestions and pics.

When we redo our pen, we might plant grapes. An overhead trellis loaded with grapevines would be great for shade and protection.

Plant pole beans about 4-6 inches apart and water then good also spray them with Miracle Grow Bloom at 1/2 rate 2 times per week until beans set on. Have beans, meat, and eggs too.

I set some pots against the run and grew Scarlet Runner Bean on strings going up to the top of the run.

This year I'm doing cherry tomatos and morning glories.
