Well, it is looking like the husband just might get started on my new coop this weekend. He has been semi co-operative about this venture lately, so I am trying to get as many of the details taken care of as I can so he can just build it without too much time spent planning and figuring.

I was scrounging through my stash and I found 4 vintage screens that I had saved. They are 30" wide and 18" high. They will be perfect for the area under the coop! I plan to have the coop about 7 ft wide and 5 ft deep and 18 " off the ground. So two screens will fit perfectly on each side! The long side of the coop (the 7 ft side) I am planning to make solid, so I don't need any screens for that side. This screens can be hinged along the bottom so I can open them and throw wood ash and so forth into the area under the coop, as this will be their dust bathing area.
.
Here are the screens. I painted them Cottage White and removed the old hardware that was used to attach them into the window frames each summer. They are from an old mountain cabin that was torn down a few years ago. Now all I have to do is put hardware cloth on them and some hinges and they will be ready for hubby to install once he gets the coop end framed up! He can frame around them so they will fit perfectly.

I figured it wouldn't hurt to let the screening on since I am putting hardware cloth over it anyway. That way I don't have to try to remove the trim pieces and possibly break them in the process. The screening is still in very good condition. I might put some lattice over them as well. That would make a sandwich of lattice, screening and hardware cloth.

I am so excited that these were the perfect size and I can use them because I am using the matching windows I also have, in the coop! I was disappointed that he won't let me put the coop where I originally wanted to, but my redesign for the new location seems like it will work out just as well. I just won't have my center coop, as I now have to put it on the end of the run. But it is still going to be be cottage cute!

Wow. Sounds lovely, I would love to see it when you're done.

Thanks Zoopilla! I think it is going to be adorable. I will be starting a thread on the build once he actually gets started on the coop. He has been dragging his feet and not very co-operative, but recently his mood seems to have changed a bit and he promised to do projects all weekend long. Sooooo I am hoping to get the cinder blocks laid at the very least. We'll see. Meanwhile, I will just keep doing whatever I can to help the process along.

I can quite picture what you have in mind but, I am sure a photo would be self explanatory.
I am not very good at explaining things I am afraid. We are building a raised coop and it will be raised off the ground 18" Instead of just lining the framing with hardware cloth, I am going to install these screens under there so that they will open and I will have access to under the coop. That way if I need to get a chicken out of there for some reason, I wouldn't have to go into the run and crawl under the coop. There will be two screens on each side, the front side of the coop will be open as it will be in the covered run and the back side will have siding on it. We also have a wood burning stove and I want to be able to put the ash from the stove into the area under the coop for a dust bathing area. I will post pics as we go along. I can see things in my mind but I am not always able to describe them accurately. This is why my husband and I butt heads on projects I suppose!!!
