Violently scratching at head??????????

Have you considered the irritant is inside the bump? Me, I'd open it up, peroxide it out, anti-biotic it, then second skin it. Can't hurt, not a chicken that old, and a bump that small. Good luck with him.

A close up of the first pic almost kind of looked like favus, but not in the second pic. As far as my experience goes with favus, if I recall correctly it doesnt cause excessive scratching, if at all. Favus is a fungal infection and miconazole will treat it. Yeast/fungal infections cause itching in humans, not sure about chickens though. Monostat 7 contains miconazole. I'm not saying that is the problem with your rooster (favus.)

I dont ahve any scalpels. If that really is the cause of the irritation, what in the world would cause it?? I found the little bump again, its the same as it was a few days ago. No change, no redness or puss or anything around it. Only where he has scratched his skin raw. He is deffinately in distress. I think he hates me now because of all the inspections on him Ive made.

Could this be psychological? Could this be residual problems from his seizures?

I'll see what i can do about opening it up. Maybe its a nasty little sliver or something. I'll have to wait till morning though, I think all the handling stressed him out.

I really appreciate the input. I'll read up on Favus and see what I can find.

His skin looks almost like a psoriasis. Can chickens get that?

I was wondering, is there a safe way to hold down Stumpy while i do it? he is soooo wiggly! Should I wrap him in a towel? He really can bob and weave that head.
