Hi everyone. I have 87 birds. 8 turkeys, and 79 hens. Today one of my lead egg layers, 2 years old, a California Tan chicken, was placed back with her own breed after spending some times with our older Easter Eggers due to pecking. So I put her in the other coop, and I walked away for a moment, and she was attacking my other hen!!! I had to put her back with the Easter Eggers. I don’t know what to do with her being mean. Any suggestions? I have had chickens since 2020, but none of them were as mean as she is. She pecked me in the eye today, and my eyelid is swollen. She also takes on our family dog who is nice to her. She’s so mean!

Edit: I will be taking the advice and separating her. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

She should be separated away from the flock for about 3 days to knock her down in status then put back into the flock in a "look don't touch" setup for about a week. Then let her out and she'll have to reestablish herself.
Keep her and all the birds away from your face at all times! Even the nice once like to peck shiny things and your eyes are shiny.
Good luck.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Birds develop flocks and orders to which you can't introduce a new bird into without aggression. You will need to cage this new bird for a week or two within the flock so they all see but can't touch. After seeing her every day, they will get used to her. There may still be some squabbling at mix day however their shouldn't be anything too bloody or dramatic.

Good luck and welcome to our community!
