Thank you everyone.
I am going through the various tutorials, which are very helpful, but some of it is foreign to me. I have a good understanding of the breeds but I didn't find anything that gave me a formula as far as feeding. I am trying to come up with a budget or map to everything because I will be using this as a teaching platform for some of the young people in my church. But to start my main concern is having a proper coop for the birds. I have not had the opportunity to post pictures because, as some of you might know, we have gotten a lot of snow and not to mention the frigid temperatures we have been experiencing lately. My out building is about 40 or 50 yards away from my home and the snow is very deep due to major drifting. But to be honest I hate the cold, BRRRR
but I will post as soon as there is a break in the weather, temperatures about freezing. Once again THANKS to everyone for the welcome and advice.
The general rule of thumb for most commercial feeds for standard layer breeds is about 4oz per chicken per day... but that will vary depending on what else they are getting ie if they free range etc, scraps, and their age, breed, condition ... Some companies have pretty detailed charts out on their birds, ie the ISA Brown (Hendrix) people have nutrition/ rearing charts on their crosses that show the feed requirements etc by gram by age ... http://www.isapoultry.com/en/products/ ... look under each cross (ie ISA Brown) for info on that one, that type of chart would be a pretty good guess as to what most red sex links would require.
There are a couple of chicken calculator type things that help figure out some general numbers ie... this waterer maker has some on their website for food/water, eggs, space etc (note they have the coop/run numbers mixed up in that calculator). http://www.chickenwaterer.com/Chicken-Caluclators-s/1842.htm http://www.lifestyleblock.co.nz/lif...-food-and-water-requirements-for-poultry.html
