I know. I mailed it today! Then I got in touch with the state vet's office because you need an import permit to bring birds into VA. Not going to happen!! Seriously not worth it to show 3 birds. So, I won't be bringing any birds after all.

VA office emailed it to me....I faxed it to my NPIP office....they faxed it back to VA

easy as pie

Know what you mean. My State DVM was none to happy to send someone to my house twice within 2 weeks to test my birds for show. They are mainly concerned about the production industry and don't want to have to mess with us little people. The Health Inspector who comes to my house is great, though. Very understanding and took pride in those blue ribbons.

Are you a tester for your area?
 
Ok, well, I have just been informed that the MG testing isn't necessary for the show--so I would be ok with the testing I do have. But I'm still going to pass on taking birds. I only entered 3, and 2 of those I wasn't so sure of (just not in great feather condition) so I'd likely end up just taking 1. And that's just silly!

I'm not a tester for my area--yet. Hopefully I will be soon!
 
MG is not a testing requirement for entry into VA. Not sure who passed that at the VA Lab but I will be calling them Monday morning to make sure we are all on the same sheet of music.

Please bear with us as we work to have the testing windows expanded to at least match our neighboring states. It won't happen this year obviously, but hopefull for next year.

Tom, I already emailed you, but for anyone else reading who might have questions/concerns about coming in from out of state to VA... To clarify my "five-alarm freak out" (as my hubby calls them)

earlier in the week about the entry requirements into VA: I think the information I recieved is probably the generic info for anyone--including the big producers who, I assume, VA does require to have MG, Salmonella, etc.--looking to get an entry permit to bring birds into the state. When asked about what the actual requirements would be for us little guys bringing in a few birds for a show, the VA Dep't. of Ag did clarify that we didn't need anything above and beyond the usual PT & AI. The process of actually getting the permit, in that case, really is easy.

Testing windows expanded? Do you mean, for example, that out of state folks not in the 90-day NPIP AI-free status program will be able to use their AI paperwork for longer than 14 days (here in MD, in-state your AI is good for 90 days) if that happens? That would be great! Some people can't get (or don't want) NPIP status, so this would make it a lot easier for those folks who already get tested quite often.
 
Our intent would be to have the out of state requirements changed to within 30 days of the show and that we also recognize AI paperwork from exhibitors who maintain an AI clean flock through the NPIP program of their respective states. For instance your state of MD, requires AI testing every 90 days to maintain AI clean status. Since your state recognizes our NPIP AI paperwork, we would like for VA to do the same for MD, and likewise our other neighboring states that have AI programs.
