Virginia

Hello! Located in lovely Hanover County raising Australorps, Black and Blue Ameraucanas (though I wish I could find replacement silvers for the group that recently became raccoon dinner), and Wheaten Marans. Of course I've got some odds 'n ends like buff orpingtons, EEs, and sex-links, but they're just around to lay eggs to sell.

Is there anyone around the Richmond area willing to sell me just 1 pullet? I have a RIR and she's lonely. She's a rescue and had always been alone so I'd prefer to just add 1 at a time instead of adding her to a flock already established. She's about 5-6 months, not laying yet. I've answered several craigslist ads and haven't gotten any responses.

Wish you lived closer, am about 20 minutes from Danville and South Boston, and I have 2 young BR pullets I want gone.

Ok, it's bad enough the stores start putting out Christmas stuff before Halloween, but now we're going to get snow tonight?

My forecast calls for "rain turning to snow" sometime after midnight. Further north, the snow could accumulate.

Gosh I wish I did too!

I'm probably even farther away over here in Suffolk. Just keep asking. Visit a swap or two if you must. I'm sure someone has one or two birds for sale.

In the meantime, let her be your yard work buddy. Or you could make/buy a chicken diaper and let her inside. We have had several injured birds spend up to a couple of months in our livingroom (much to my husband's annoyance!). Once it sinks into the Dino brain that we aren't going to hurt them, we have friendly housemates. Middle Child (age 13) lives nothing more than to watch TV while snuggling a chicken.

OMG, DH would DIE if I let Brownie into the house, even in a diaper LOL. I just hate for her to be so lonely. She stays in her coop most of the time unless someone comes out to visit. I haven't let her into the yard yet but she has free range of the 21x15 run. I've been afraid she would fly away.

I have a friend that has a hen that has 1 eye pecked out. She's been afraid to put her back with the other hens and doesn't really have a place for just one chook... Not far from Gum Spring Ex I64

Oh geez, tell me about it.

We were out ealier and it was raining then that turned to sleet. The temp here is dropping fast and it is still raining, so I guess sometime tonight the rain will turn to freezing rain. Not sure what tomorrow is going to be now, missed the news tonight. Yesterday it said NRV (where I am) could get a little snow, maybe a dusting to a half inch, so who knows what the forcast is now.

Thanks! I just happened to look on the VA boards tonight and glad I did because I had the waterer out there and it's already sleeting outside. Didn't even think about freezing temps this early! I have the heated waterer. I'll head out tomorrow in the daylight and put that one out there. I just went out in the dark and retrieved the outside waterer - they're asleep and won't need it tonight.
