Virginia

Hi everyone,

I'm moving to Virginia in a few days and we're in a bit of pickle. We won't be able to keep our white silkie pullet when we get there, and I'm not having any luck finding her a new home here in Florida (a few people off CL were supposed to come for her and all flaked last minute). Any chance someone in/around richmond would be interested?

Welcome to Virginia!!!! There are lots of Silkie lovers here and you shouldn't have a problem finding her a good home the first day you are here.

Good luck on your move and finding your girl a home.

I know in Charlottesville what they carry changes from week to week. I think they started selling in February last year for our store so it should be around the same time. If you want a true "blue" egg layer I wouldn't count on TSC. They may tell you you are getting an Americauna or Araucana but you will probably be getting an Easter Egger and your egg could be most likely green, brown or possibly blue. For a blue egg layer you might be better off finding a local breeder. Call the store and see what they say about when they plan to have chicks. They may not know what they will have but maybe when. You could also order directly from the hatchery and get exactly what you want. The hatchery that supplies our local TSC will send live chicks in as little as the amount of 5. I recently ordered some and all arrived healthy. Good Luck.

Ours uses Mt. Healthy also however they (Mt. Healthy) appear to have another website, www.healthychicksandmore.com. If you look at the top of the home page you can select "pick your own" and then it will let you pick individual chicks of differing breeds and gender. Because of the time of year right now the selection may be limited to what they are actually incubating but that will probably change in the coming months. You may have to wait a while to get what you want but they seem to have a really extensive variety. I recd Gold Laced Wyandottes, and Silver Laced Wyandottes Dec 14. I was just lucky that they were actually incubating what I was actually wanting. Good Luck.

You should check out some of the local people in your area if you are trying to find some chicks. There are alot of people that hatch and sell chicks and you don't have to have them shipped.
