Virginia

when is the next Roanoke swap?
the swaps accessible to Roanoke are:
Christiansburg TSC First Saturdays, - not quite as large as Roanoke but usually pretty good
Roanoke TSC Third Saturdays, - the largest one in the area
Rocky Mount TSC Fourth Saturdays. - smaller than either c'burg or Roanoke

there's a swap at the Roanoke/Troutville southern states, also the 4th Saturdays. it's been small each time I've gone but i'm told it's picking up

swaps usually start around 8am but people show up any time after that too, usually ending by noon, or sometimes later if people want to stay. I usually aim for 8-12ish but that can vary.

um... looking at the calendar, looks like tomorrow's the 24th. so that would be the 4th Saturday... so. yup.

i'm sure there are others if you're not near Roanoke (southern states) or rocky mount (TSC), but don't know where they would be. sorry.

Isn't there one that's trying to start in Wytheville too? I've been told that some people have been trying in Pulaski too but I've wondered if they have confused this with wythville/ft. Chiswell?

no idea... it's too far for me to travel. rocky mount is technically too far for me too, but I have a friend i'm meeting there tomorrow, so THAT makes the drive worth it.

i'll be bringing a couple silver grey dorking girls as well as some chicks, and taking orders for my brooder boxes (i'll have one with me) if anyone's interested.
they can be used as portable brooders as well. I took two of them to Gilmanor last spring with broodies and their chicks in them.
Good thing too, it was COLD!

some possible options I can work with...

and my own brooder boxes in use.

the lighting has been modified from what you see in the photo, to using recessed fluorescent fixtures above each brooder, permanently attached so there's no wiring to remove if you need to take it somewhere.

I live in Carrollton Va. No chicks yet and have not even built my coop yet. Just doing all the research i can for now. Will start the coop this winter and have chicks in the spring. In the mean time i will be on the forum absorbing all the info i can and probably asking some silly questions as i prepare to become a BYC landlord.

Welcome to BYC and the world of chickens! It has been more fascinating than I could have imagined.
