You can Dooooooooo it!

Lots of threads on BYC that will walk you through it, then you'll know for sure that it was done reasonably and properly.
You'll love your birds all the more for it.

I'm considering raising some chickens for my family's freezer....I live in the botetourt area but me nor my husband would be able to do the deed, does anyone know where you can take chickens to be processed reasonably and properly

honestly, it's not difficult, but then, I don't pluck. my hands don't work well enough most days. LOL I 'peel' all my birds and then debone for people use and let the chickens/dog/cats pick at the rest. (raw bones are safe, cooked can splinter)

I don't have anyone ready to process, or I'd invite you up to show you how it's done... then again, bring your own bird and I'd be glad to show you. I'm in Roanoke co, (closer to Blacksburg than Roanoke tho).

I might have to take you up on that offer sometime its terrifying to think about I'm going to see if my husband would be interested in learning so maybe he could take care of it. It's strange because I don't mind the thought of raising and then having them processed I just can't stand the thought of doing it myself. I think I would even be ok after the blood was drained it would just be the initial cut that is freaking me out

Hey guys !! I just moved to VA in June love it here :) I have a trio of 11 week old Swedish Flower Hens that I need to part with. I've decided I don't want to breed them. Let me know if you are interested !!

I'm curious who you got them from? likely either me or Leigh. LOL if you have pics we might be interested in getting them back...

looking at the dates, those could be either kytinpusher's chicks (I hatched) or Leigh's (I hatched some same time as kytinpusher's and she hatched a few a few days later). did you get them up at Gilmanor? or locally?
