I am also raising 3 Cornish Chicks to add to my freezer! I'm excited to get these chicks outside in the new coop! Anyone from around here?
ME!!! I am SO near you. I live over by 29...about 1/2 way between Ruckersville and Advance mills.

glad to virtually meet you!

what kind of chicks did you get?

HI! Glad someone is sooo close:) I am over that way all the time :) I got 5 more RIRs, 3 Anconas , 1 Partridge Chantecler, 1 Black Silkie, 1 Light Bramham, 1 Light Brown Leghorn, and 1 Buff Minorca:) They also put about 11 rooster (don't know what they are) in my box since it was so cold.....I think they will be joining my Cornish in the freezer (atleast some of them). What Kind of Chickens do you have?

Friendly advice to those of you who haven't slaughtered yet: Don't hesitate. Just do it, detach yourself emotionally except for giving thanks (to whomever or whatever your worship...for me it's the good Lord above, for others it may be mother nature) for providing the roo as a source to help sustain your family. I was nervous my first time...afraid I'd make the bird suffer by doing something wrong. I didn't. I did it fast and efficiently so no suffering. If you think about it too much, and for too long, you won't do it. Have confidence in your ability to do what needs to be done.

if you've ever seen the movie Avatar, when he makes his first clean kill, that's what hits home for me...

Good luck in getting your chicks safely…after reading about Ki4got’s, now I’m worried for you? I wonder: Can you ask them to include a heatpack?
I have Dorkings and Barnevelders mostly. But also a trio of Silver Penciled Rock, a trio of Bantam Chocolate Orp that are almost laying age, a pair of rhodebars, and random other laying chickens like Marans and Maradunna Basque. Oh, and one little Crested Cream Legbar that lays the prettiest blue eggs.
I am hoping to get some more Orpingtons and some Crème Brabanters this spring. And a couple east Indie Ducks and a pair of Geese. LOL
I originally got chickens for good quality white eggs for doing Pysanky (decorated Ukranian “Easter” eggs) but this chicken thing has kinda snowballed on me.

Oh , I meant to say...if anyone is interested in trying Pysanky, I am certainly willing to teach and also there is a pysanky gathering in Richmond this weekend that I am planning to attend. I have never met this group of pysanky artists beofore....

Wow! I wanted to order some but I'd be devastated. So sorry about your babies. I can only imagine after waiting for them how bad it was. I want some chocolate brown egg layers.
