Buff Orpingtons, Black Ausralorps, Golden Buffs, and Easter Eggers. Do you have any suggestions for anywhere else I could find chicks locally?
Dont know any one up that way - son doesn't raise chickens - Most farm supplys and tractor supply have them this time of year . I am currently hatching Delawares but none available right now . I believe there is a swap coming up. Maybe someone will chime in with some help.

Does anyone have BLRW chicks or hatching eggs (I'd even consider older birds) you will be bringing to swaps? I have 30 in the incubator, but it looks like only two are still viable.

Tractor supply has chicks on an availability basis by type so you may be able to find what you are looking for here. There is a new breeder on Route 20 headed to Orange but if memory serves he only has RIR and Tetra Link I think. I could look him up if you are interested. You would be surprised to know the number of family's that have chickens in Spotsy now.

We have at least 4 Roos out of the 6 SLWs we purchased straight run from TSC and are still waiting to see what we have with the 12 Buffs (straight run) from SS. Out of the 6 EEs we have from TSC, 1 may be a Roo (they all came out of the pullet bin).

How many Roos do ya'll recommend keeping with 10-12 hens? I've read just one per 10, but wanted to see what everyone else did. If the EE turns out to be a roo, I kind of would like to keep him...but if my really friendly Orp ends up being a roo, I want him for sure. lol

Any of you guys looking to buy a roo of any of these?

haha. So far, looks like we'll have quite a few Roos for the freezer not too long from now.

I think one of our SLW Roos has even attempted to make a weird crowing noise a few times. Has sounded like one of those rubber chicken toys

We got our coop door put on yesterday thanks to my father in law. He's currently running some wire for some lights for us now. Just need to install some roosts and the hardware cloth, and hopefully by the end of next weekend, the coop will be done!

ALWAYS keep a spare. even if you don't think you'll need it. and wyandottes are bad about fertility I've heard (my own roo seems to be having issues too) so having 4-5 girls per roo is preferable. especially since roos get favorites and some girls may be 'neglected'...

I keep 1 Roo for every 4 hens. I think 10 is too many. Haven't had any fertility issues with my SLW that I bought from J. Foley. All of my eggs are fertile and most make it to hatch.
