We have at least 4 Roos out of the 6 SLWs we purchased  straight run from TSC and are still waiting to see what we have with the 12 Buffs (straight run) from SS. Out of the 6 EEs we have from TSC, 1 may be a Roo (they all came out of the pullet bin).

How many Roos do ya'll recommend keeping with 10-12 hens? I've read just one per 10, but wanted to see what everyone else did. If the EE turns out to be a roo, I kind of would like to keep him...but if my really friendly Orp ends up being a roo, I want him for sure. lol

Any of you guys looking to buy a roo of any of these? :p  haha. So far, looks like we'll have quite  a few Roos for the freezer not too long from now.

I think one of our SLW Roos has even attempted to make a weird crowing noise a few times. Has sounded like one of those rubber chicken toys
We got our coop door put on yesterday thanks to my father in law. He's currently running some wire for some lights for us now. Just need to install some roosts and the hardware cloth, and hopefully by the end of next weekend, the coop will be done!

I'm a novice but, my four Australorp hens are not enough distraction for the cock. His favorite is devoid of most of her back feathers. I think at least 6 to 8 hens per cock would give some of the girls a rest...

On roos choosing favorites- yep, definitely! One_of my RO girls received the "crescent" feather ruffle pattern from being mated the most while the other girl didn't look mated at all. Both laid fertile eggs though.

Beautiful dogs. Are they trained not to eat the chickens until the ok is given?;-)

Still working on that..haha!

Thanks! :) He's a good boy. We can put any type of food on his head or in his mouth and he'll wait for us until we tell him the "OK" command for him to eat it. haha

He's about 8 months old...and is 100 lbs.
pretty boy...what's his name?

We have a pup about his age that we are having issues with. hoping he will get better...

mine is a 55lb Australian shepherd/great pyr cross. He was supposed to be a Karakachan/Pyr but as he grew it became *QUITE* obvious that someone had jumped the fence. but by the time we noticed, too late to give him back and get our money refunded. We were already attached.

Does anyone have BLRW chicks or hatching eggs (I'd even consider older birds) you will be bringing to swaps? I have 30 in the incubator, but it looks like only two are still viable.

If you're looking for great quality SLW or BLRW, Jerry Foley has them. You can reach him here

Here's his website: http://www.foleyswaterfowl.com/

I purchased an adult breeding pair from him and the hen started laying eggs the second day she was here and hasn't stopped. Already have some great SLW chicks from them.
