I'm in need of a bit of info, please. I have four Australorp hens and two pullets which for the past week have laid a total of two eggs, both pullet, as I recall. Last fall/winter(my first) I had only four hens and production slowed way down, but this year it's virtually stopped! Any ideas, as to why? Everyone seems to be eating well and they get plenty of calcium... I've also got four game hens, which aren't known as good layers, that are laying 2-3 eggs per day. The BA's should be ashamed...

Chick uns air not ven ding mochines. Go give your girls a hug and tell them thanks for a great summer and to enjoy their holidays. And that any eggs they decide to share between now and late Jan will be greatly appreciated and savored.

I have seven hens and this year has been a severe molt - we were down to a egg every other day and then two weeks ago almost nothing, Had to do the unthinkable and buy a dozen eggs beginning of last week LOL.
Every one I talk to had the same problem in some degree.
However last three days they are back cranking them out .

:weee

I got ya, Glen. I'm used to the ups and downs, just not having them turn completely off. And the game hens didn't even slow down... I'll go give 'em a hug this morning!
Thanks to all for your input!

not sure if hugs really work. threats seem to work here; 'lay me some eggs or you will become chicken and dumplings', or 'fix me some breakfast or you will become dinner'. lol. still have a couple hens laying and several pullets keeping me in eggs. after Christmas the rest of the cubalayas should start laying again.

Colors of the splash? Red and white or black and white? Maybe my ignorance bc my splash Orpingtons are black and white.
4 for 17. Are they laying yet?
How close are you to the Parkway? I am just off the Parkway. I could pick them up for her.
No problem. The splash are blue/black on white.

We're near Petersburg. If you're speaking of the Powhite Pkwy, we're not close, but perhaps I can talk someone into giving me a ride if I can come up with an excuse to go to that side of town.

I just realize it looks like you're closer to Roanoke? For some reason I kept thinking you were near Emporia. I am easily confused!

Hi there, I am way up in rhe mountains. A couple of hours drive to get Roanoke. I drive to the big city often enough, Roanoke that is. I could help her out some but not that much. I timd her to check for local swap flocks or TSC this coming easter. I hope you can find someone in that area. They sound pretty. Splash Amerauncana.

Are any of you up to attending a Flock Swap at TSC parking lot this Saturday in Martinsville-Ridgeway? I am!
I do not see any sense in advertizing on Buy,sell & trade bc I am not shipping nowhere's. Not going to drive and meet up anywhere's. Available ONLY at the Flock Swap at the TSC parking lot Martinsville/Ridgeway from 8 am - noon only.

This Saturday 06 December 2014,
TSC parking lot Martinsville/Ridgeway, VA
8am-12pm, over at noon for me

Chocolate Orpington bantam pair, roo & hen, mated & laying, aged 13 months, $150. OBO

Blue-Laced Dark Red Orpington pair, rooster & hen, mated & laying, 9 months, $75. OBO

Australorp Rooster and 3 HENS, mated & laying, aged 9 months, $60. OBO

Barred Rooster & 3 HENS, mated & laying, aged 7 months, $60. OBO.

Just to drive that distance and be there 4 hours will be all I can handle. If you can get them cheaper elsewhere's then more power to you. I am tired of buying eggs that dont hatch and getting chickens half dead and die through the mail. These are alive, healthy & beautiful. I have too many different breeds and different colors of the same breeds. Scaling down. These are free ranged chickens, diets are supplemented with high quality Omega grains and homemade fermented foods for when they come in at night, all night, in the morning prior to being set free to roam the property. They drink from the creeks during the day and waterers have spring water for their hutches. These are all mated and laying.

It's ok, I don't blame you! That would be a HUGE favor!

Hope you can find a good home for your birds though and your friend finds a few good Ams. I bet a lot of chicks will be available in the Spring.

I am reducing the flock and changing direction, so mine will be headed for freezer camp if no one in the local area wants them when I bring in the new stock!
