Virginia

New twists are always welcome. Especially ones that work.

If you water outside- we have timers that hook to hose and just let it run a set set time at a set repeat interval to change water.
Our chickens prefer the water I dump on ground to the fresh just provided.
Chicken will train to nipples - they just need to get thirsty- they don't drink as much as you think when they Don't have excess to play in.

went to Gilmanor, had a good time, sold a bunch of birds, but for anyone in the Roanoke area (or willing to travel) I still have a few BLRW and EE chicks left over (ranging from 1-3 weeks old)...

also, if you were there and had any Silver Fox rabbits and swapped them for some BLRW, pm me please, I had a question... bad with names and k.i.forgot strikes again...

saw you at gilmanor. thanks for taking andy's bird. we sold out of cubalayas for the year. the asils not so popular yesterday and I even reduced prices. I may bring a stag or pair in the future but will be full price. will concentrate mainly on the cubalayas. see yall in may

good seeing you too! it worked out well, I ended up swapping for the rabbits and got a couple square bales from him when we made the swap. so now the bunnies have hay too.
much easier than peeling off the horse's round bales

wow... 646 pages! Maybe it's time for a separate forum for Virginia with different discussions instead piling everything up here??? It may have been brought up before but I'd never know!! :)
Its the Virginia thread were Virginians gather to see who does/has what. in Virginia . If someone needs more specific information on breed. breeding or raising there are threads for that. Its not fast moving as it is. Those 648 pages are over 8 years. At times it puts you to sleep.

Welcome to the Virginia thread what Chickens do you have ?

Good point.

I have 9 white leghorns that I hatched in my classroom last year (6th grade Science). 2 Golden Comets (I LOVE their demeanor!), and 1 silver laced wyandotte (sp.) I also have some rabbits.

I have 25 "heavy birds" for meat on their way from murray mcmurray hatchery as we speak :)

If you want to read some more details, I just started a website for our little homestead: www.splitpoplarhills.com

I'll check back often and just start reading backward :)

Thanks!

I agree there are specific breed forums on the backyard chicken site. In some cases there are more than one forum dedicated to one breed. We may not have a dedicated site for every breed.

If ever you feel there is not a forum or thread for a breed, start one. Talk to a "real" moderator and get the specifics on starting a thread of your own, dedicated to choosing the breed specifics and standards, correct bird, care, feed and how to kill and cook your special breed if you like.

If the site you need allows snarky remarks or snooty behavior or infantile behavior due to connections to "non-real" moderators, then get your own site and invite friends to make posts on chicken recipes and such.

I am a patient and sharing person. I am a Willow, I can bend. I am not prone to bad behavior. I have no time for childish anttics nor snotty remarks. I deal with adults only and even then I refuse to deal with some adults that act like they are still in middle school or Junior high back in my day. I find those adults that ACT like they are in middle school is because they have kids in middle school having problems and so they act like they are in middle school also having problems and lets not forget how the new generations behave. Each generation has it's own quirks. And then there are the bridge generations, barely discussed. I am from the first run of the baby boomers and I shutter when I see the bullying tactics of the women of their 50's, 40's and 30's.much less the 20's. No boardroom skills. No one to lead the way in womens rights. And I sometimes ask myself,... I was one of the women leading the way in womens rights movement of the 60's and 70's for THAT?
So yes there are reasons to have more than one forum dedicated to Virginians and yes there are reasons to have more than one forum dedicated to a breed.

So there are reasons to have more than one thread for a state also. Look at North California, Southern California, AND more, look at how they break down.

So YES there are reasons to have more than one site for Virginia. Such as, Central Virginia, Northern Virginia, Coastal Virginia and SouthWestern Virginia. Which all present their own unique geographical problems, weather, predators or what have you. If you feel the need? Then there must be one!

I do agree there are reasons to have more than one thread on a site. ONE is not the be all, see all, say all, nor do all. There is always more than one opinion and yes some jump in kicking without fully understanding a situation so go ahead and start your own if you feel the need. You may live in a different area of Virginia than most of the people from central and northern Virginians on this site. I am way up in the rooftop of Virginia area, way down and out in Southwestern, Virginia and once in a while someone from up North moves in around these parts and kicks up a storm and slowly dies down. I usually ignore them.

I was born and raised in Virginia and left to travel the world for 40 years and returned to my home state to see it so different from when I left. In fact every visit home, I noticed the changes here and the world.

If your new, welcome.
If you want to start a new thread for your area, have at it.
If you see a need for a new thread for your breed, go for it.
If this thread does not suit your needs and you believe others would like to participate in another, have at it.
I am almost certain there will be someone that will take something out of context, manipulate or twist to suit themselves, something I have said. Have at it!
There is room for growth at this site. I can not imagine a "Real" Moderator saying no we dont want to expand to fit our members needs.
Abide by the rules of this internet site, and enjoy.
