well, for those that wanted designer chicks, they're hatching!

so far i've got 2 dorucanas, 2 buff dorkingtons, 2 wyandorks, and a couple that might either be pure dorking, wyandorks or orpingdottes.

pure wyandottes are possible as well as pure easter eggers. wait. is that an oxymoron? ok. so i might have some pure oxymorons.

for those who are lost, i'm sorry.

the eggs currently hatching could be any combination of: roos - ee, blue laced red wyandotte, red or silver grey dorking. hens - red or silver grey dorking, black or splash laced red wyandotte, buff orpington, EE.

So are those for sale? We want 2 more hens... we picked up 8 today from tactor supply! Oy!!

yes. the only ones i'm keeping are those potentially pure dorkings and some of the ee chicks which are spoken for...

i've also got some that are about 10 weeks old or so wyandotte cross chicks. think they're all pullets actually but not 100%.

Introducing myself...a little birdy told me about this thread. (you know who you are)
I am into Dorkings and Barnevelders. And one of EVERYTHING ELSE for a laying flock.
I'm from Ruckersville and I think I am a chicken addict...starting to be a hatching addict.
Got a full incubator and a broody hen in the basement...Oy.

ok, how about an update... remember those old and possibly frozen eggs i was talking about yesterday? the ones i set but didn't expect to do much?

well, when i candled them on day 19, it looked like about half of what i'd put in the hatcher had quit already. (18 eggs went in out of 21 developing.)

well, as of last night, i had 10 chicks out, but one was kind of iffy looking, so stayed in the hatcher overnight. i didn't see any other pips. this morning, he was doing fine, so went into the brooder, along with 2 more buddies that surprised me.

this evening, there were 3 more hatched! but one is definately a HUGE ??? ... 2 of them are doing well, if still a bit wet, the third's head is hanging mostly upside down and backwards, his legs out backwards and feet balled into little fists... so unless he straightens out by morning he'll be sent away painlessly.

but still! that's 14 where i expected maybe 5 or 6. and even then, those first 5 or 6 hatched, were from eggs over a MONTH old before they even went IN the incubator !!!!

and a couple i think are even PURE dorks!
