Karen...sorry about the BLRW. poor thing.

predators suck.
just sayin'

We think we have FINALLY conquered the Fox but not until he took 12 of my chickens. We enclosed the entire area with elec. net fencing. seems to have worked.

and we had a rat snake in the coop eating eggs that we cought yesterday...things are looking up! glad we caught him but wish we could have done so before he ate all but one of my poor broody's incubating eggs. guess she will have an only child...hope it is a girl at least. Going to be pretty bummed after all this if the only surviving egg is a boy. but I fear the likelihood of finding someone in the local area who has incubating eggs in a breed that I want that were set on the 1st to be pretty low.

poor broody. she wants to be a momma so badly

so find someone with some chicks less than a week old when the other chick hatches... give them to her (I sneak them in under her butt) all the same time on the night she gets her 'own' hatched... she'll take them all at the same time.

Quote: ok my mistake... for some reason my brain keeps switching HaplessRunner and RidinShotgun around... I met you both at Gilmanor, and for some reason keep switching names.

Ridin's got the BLRW chicklet that i'll be swapping (hopefully) at the fall Gilmanor for the sfh that he/she was supposed to be...

Anyone have any silkies/ silkie chicks for sale? I am very interested in buff/red, splash, blue, and porcelain/lavendar an possibly a calico or mixed color silkie.

sorry, don't need silk-o-baters that much... LOL my buff orp is on round 3 now... last 2 days she was outside when I went to feed and let everyone out, today she was a no-show. figured i'd find a pile of buff feathers and/or broken eggs. but would you know, that silly-goofy-fuzzmutt aka Sunny, the standard poodle, knew EXACTLY what I was asking when I told him 'go find her'. and he did, within about 30 seconds.

then again her nest wasn't very well hidden. at least to those of us who see color. in the tall grass, once I knew where to look, there she was. well, there her NEST was... she'd already taken off and was 'bagawk-ing' like a possum had hold of her tail or something. so tonight, after dark, she's being relocated to the doghouse pen, where she can sit her assorted mutt eggs (unless I give her something else to set) and live life in peace (and captivity).

or I might just give her wooden eggs to set, and save her for any babies that might potentially need brooding at Gilmanor. she's already proven that she'll take as many as I can fit under her. LOL actually, I hope to have some 2 week old sfh by then, so maybe I'll do just that. then again, one of my cochins is also on round 2 or 3, so...

ah, i'll figure it out eventually.

well I candled her remaining egg and it is not viable.
oh well. she's sitting on nothing now. poor thing.

Anyone going to the Orange TSC swap on Saturday?
