Virginia

We currently have some Black Australorps and a Lavender Orpington. Just finishing up a new coop and run for the girls. It was time for an upgrade, and its actually been fun to build. How about you, what breeds do y'all have?

I have a mismatched flock but trying to start primarily working with houdans. I have a lavender Orpington, 4 silkies, 3 sizzles, 2 Turken, a pound chicken from the RCACP, Millie fleur, 2 heritage RIR, golden laced polish, houdan anddddd 3 Easter eggers 😅

I've also got a mixed flock which includes 3 EEs. I call them my bearded ladies, aka Frankie, Johnie, & Paulie. They have been a lot of fun, but they take their name too seriously. Always hiding their eggs. Last yr it was under the coop, which I've since blocked. Then last week they buried a clutch of 7 eggs. One of them must have gotten a little carried away with scratching around their little hidden treasure and managed to leave a few uncovered for me to discover. They were very upset with me when I carried off their eggs. All three raised quite a ruckus for a good 10 minutes!

I am in VA, Loudoun County.
We are getting our first 30 chickens in May.
I would love to know someone in this area I could pick their brain.
Ed here in Fairfax County got our true green and true blue with a Faverolles roo as packing material In April. We need a group here in NoVa.

Hi, I moved to Virginia last year (near Culpepper) and we recently lost almost our entire flock (we think it was a fox) except for a lone survivor.

Her name is Fuzz, and she is kinda living in the house at the moment.
We plan on getting new chicks to start again and building them a new coop and run so we can predator-proof from the ground up and have them a little closer to the house.
I was wondering what everyone's favorite breeds are?
My mom wants chickens that are good layers, and she ends up buying whatever is available at Tractor Supply (Rhode Island Red, Sex-Links, Plymouth Rocks). While I just want a few little cochin bantams. I bought one from a feed store in PA when we lived there and she was the sweetest little hen.

If you're looking for a few cute cockerels to add to your new coop, send me a message! I have 2 freakin' adorable 11 week satin frizzles (silkie-cochins) who need a good, friendly home. These guys are brothers and incredibly sweet, calm, and goofy! 2020-07-02 09.25.48.jpg 2020-07-02 09.27.12.jpg
