Actualy, state vets tell you, if you go to any of the testing courses. Its only a week quarantine that is required. I guess you can do 30 days if you want to over kill it, but I have not had issues with such problems. Chicks are usually another story because of their size, however allways be cautious and try to look for healthy looking birds.

if the birds appear to be healthy you still need to quarantine at least 2 weeks, 30 days is best. to set up at our swaps you need to be a member of ecc and if selling your birds will be inspected by the swap promoter or site moderator.

I would still reccomend 30 days. A chicken can appear perfectly healthy and still be a carrier of the respiratory diseases. That amount of time allows the disease a chance to show itself. It isn't 100% foolproof by any means. Some breeders with very valuble breeding stock will even add a sacraficial chicken in with the new ones and wait to see if it gets sick. It may seem like overkill until you have to watch your birds die a horrible death because they are suffocating on their own mucous/snot. In the end, folks just have to decide what is right for them and go with it. I just wanted to put that out there for the folks new to chickens.

There's going to be a chicken swap at 360 hardware in King William County on April 9th. Never been to this one before but I'm taking 2 Black Copper Marans cockerels, a Mille Fluer D'Uccle roo and a few barred rock hens. Does anyone know if they allow you to sell hatching eggs at swaps?

I'm not an expert on the hatching eggs at swaps, but when I was there, someone was selling eggs for eating and eggs for hatching.

Hopefully, someone who "knows the rules" will chime in here.
