Visiting Roosters...

At this point I don't think it matters, they are already exposed to whatever the rooster might be carrying. Many diseases blow in on the wind or are transported by wild birds as well.
Yes.....But why take chances and give information that is so wrong...Everyone talks quarantine here on BYC, but I guess wild Roosters are exempt from the practice?

Question was asked with potentially lethal results for the thread starters flock of birds...If people dont really know the answer? They should really not be replying.....

Are you referring to me? You can't quarantine a stray chicken, especially since they can't catch it, so quarantine was never an issue.

Thanks Naser! I'm happy to have joined this great group!! Our girls do free range when we are out with them. When we are at work, my husband has a completely cover run for them. I thought the same thing about what ever got the rooster will now know there are chickens here. We have a lot of coyotes around. My husband thinks that is what may have got him. I have been feeding the other rooster and he seems to be ok when we are around him. I got him to go in the run but he left before we could get him in the coop. We are going to keep trying. I don't want to see anything happen to this little guy. I feel terrible that something got the other before we could catch them.

My girls seems to like him so I don't think it will be a problem. I'll keep trying!
Is your pop door attached to the covered run? If so, perhaps you could lure him into the covered run with some scratch, and just leave him there till dark. He would then be forced to go into the coop with the hens b/c he wouldn't want to stay in the run over night. If you are able to catch him, you might want to keep him penned for a week, trim one wing, and give him a dusting for mites/lice.

I agree, leave the run open at night and see if he voluntarily follows the girls in. Or bait him into the run with treats & shut the door.
Leave them closed up for about 4 days and he will get the hint.

Has he been breeding the hens? If so, to late to worry about diseases.

Why introduce them in the first place???

Last post, I only know what was done and what other posters said was all good...Up too the poster to decide if they are looking after their birds??

Just an opinion I left....Like yours, RIGHT?
