• Is it possible to overdose from prolonged use of a vitamin & electrolytes solution?

• If the vitamin & electrolytes solution is from a concentrated batch, can the chemical properties change into a toxic mixture if not used in a short time period?

• How many days in a row should the vitamin & electrolytes be used or discontinued?

• Does a heat lamp used to heat the brooder change the chemistry of the vitamin & electrolytes while heating water dispensers.

It is very possible to create toxicity with V&E water. Always make sure you're dosing the water correctly. I've never heard of storing a large batch, as the directions say to toss after 24 hr. My guess would be do to concerns of mold, bacteria, and loss of potency are the issues with storing and/or using from a stored batch. There is no limit to the amount of days fresh V&E can be used. A heat lamp could speed up growth of mold, bacteria....but it wouldn't increase the strength of the mixture. If anything, it would break it down faster.

Never mix electrolytes stronger than recommended. The sugar in the mix makes it prone to spoilage, so you MUST renew it daily. As for giving electrolytes for multiple days in a row, IMO a very bad idea. Give on an AS NEEDED basis, or after/during a specific event that you are concerned about: shipping, traveling, hot days, hatching, flock stress. Vitamins can be given daily, but my preference would be to give several times/week.

This package contains a concentrated mixture.
One package mixes into 1 gallon of concentration.
Then 1 oz makes one gallon of solution.
The 1 gallon mixture makes 128 gallons of vitamins and electrolytes.
I feed it to my many goats and tons of pigs during extreme heat/stress etc. IT IS HOT! AND PIGS CAN'T SWEAT..
Recently had too much leftover from the livestock and used it properly mixed several days in a row with new chicks. 10 out of 30 died for unexplained reasons until I created this thread.
I portioned it properly and stored it refrigerated.
I usually only give electrolytes for the first two days for chicks but I went 4 to 5 days.
I have a hatch day every 10 or 11 days and for now on the supplement will not be used excessively.
I want to thank you all for participating in this thread and above all, your kindness in educating me on this error I have made.
Sincerely FC:)

Connie, thanks so much for sharing the problem you had. By sharing this information, you may save some one else from a similar occurrence. Many newbies use lytes to excess, thinking that if a little is good, then a lot must be better.

Several vets have suggested offering fresh water in addition to electrolyte water. So two water sources, one with electrolytes, one without.
