~.Vitamins and Electrolytes.~ Do you use them?

I find that also. I like to use them for my silkie, and sebright chicks. Since they are tiny bantams, I find it does help.

Normally I agree with Ravenfeathers. If it ain't broke then don't fix it. I don't
take vitamins myself except for fish oil.

I don't give them the full dose that is on the package. I just sprinkle a little
in their water and only for the first week or two.

We just had a terrible loss rate on two batches of day old turkeys. I started them
on the vitamin and my loss rate went way down. I think it helped a little.

One thing that everyone must be aware of is that the vitamins in processed feed
are mostly adders anyways.

I think its also important to remember that V&E are not the same as just Vitamin supplements. Overuse of electrolytes can be dangerous, especially when they are not needed. If you want to supplement your birds, use straight vitamins. Electrolytes are specifically developed for treating dehydration and increases sodium intake, which when not necessary can have harmful (even toxic) effects on the organs.

where do you get regular vitamin soluble?

Mine are given V&E once a week and I have never had any problems. People have told me my hatch rates have been really good even for shipped eggs. Even though I package really well. That has alot to do with it besides many other factors.

You could also try Rooster Booster and both could be bought at tractor supply store. I have heard alot of Exhibition breeders use Red-Cell the horse vitamin and Vitamin E mixed with whole grains to there breeder birds. the V&E works fine with mine. It aint broken in my case so I wont fix it.

I was wondering how many people use vitamins and electrolytes when their chicks hatch.

Do you use them?
For how long do you use them?
And, why do you use them?
Also, what brand do you use?

Hi!
The brand I keep here is Fort Dodge.
I give my laying age and almost-laying-age birds V&E in their drinking water once a week (more often in periods here when temps hit 90+).
I don't know that it helps them or not --- or just makes me feel better.

I've always hesitated to use V&E in chicks drinking water because my chick starter has Amprollium (which is a thiamine blocker? which is Vit D?) and my V&E has Vit D and thiamine. I don't remember if that was something I read or something I made up in my head, but that is why.

I have a question. The ingredients in this V&E are: Dextrose, Vit A Supplement, D-Activated Animal Sterol (source of Vit D3), Vit E Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex, Thiamine Mononitrate, Potassium Chloride, Salt

Which of those would be the 'electrolytes'?

the lytes are the potassium chloride and the salt.

just a quick word to those who might be interested (and that's fine if you aren't, i'm not looking for conflict here), fort dodge, which is owned by the same company that makes the brand name Advil (wyeth), is the producer of premarin and i generally avoid their products on principle, including fort dodge vaccines. my vet thinks i'm a kook for always insisting on merial vaccines.

I didn't know i was making a no no. I have been giving vitamins and electrolytes for a year now in every watering. I haven't had any chicken problems. I don't use antibiotics unless I know what I am dealing with and then only to treat an outbreak not on a continous basis, but I never thought giving a third of shot glass of vitamins in 5 gallons of water would be harmful. The stuff is so cheap, that I stock up on it.
But I guess its just like people, some people can take vitamins every day and still get sick and some don't and are as healthy as a horse.
