Vitamins?

Hello!!

We just got our first egg and WE ARE SO EXCITED!!! We currently have them on layena high protein feed, have a flock block, and give them frozen watermelon as needed due to the heat!

I just went to atwoods to get fake eggs to put in the nesting boxes as we only have one now producing. Just to be sure there is some kind of encouragement.

My question: while I was at atwoods I saw they have a layer and probiotic vitamin to put in their water. Should I already be doing this? or should I wait to provide my chickens until they are more developed?

Thanks!

There's no reason to give any additional vitamins to chickens that are fed a nutritionally balanced diet unless you are specifically treating for some ailment (i.e. wry neck).
Hello But what if you are feeding nutritionally balanced feed and your chicken walks around eating excess vitamins in grass and weeds and flowers and bugs? Does that extra vitamin hurt them?

No, chickens are pretty good at self regulating what they eat for what they need, and there are certai, vitamins that are expelled naturally from the body when levels are higher than needed

It doesn't hurt to purchase this and have it on hand as, to my knowledge, this stuff doesn't go bad. I've used it a time or two when I have had an issue with a rooster having seizures or a baby chick looking weak.

Nope, because bugs and plants don't have the same highly concentrated amount of any vitamin the way that pills or liquid supplements would, and the birds are generally good at moderating their own intake when given the choice.

I use fermented feed, and add kickin’ chicken to it. My girls are glossy & so pretty. It’s omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. That’s all I really add. If it’s hot hot I’ll pop electrolytes in their water during the day.
