Viva Las Vegas!

The closest feed store to you is Sunset Saddlery off Sunset/Boulder Highway, but be careful with the feed that you buy because sometimes it is quite old. Livestock feed, dog food ... always check the sale by date! They often run specials on their old food, but buyer beware! They also keep a TON of ornamental and mongrel pigeons there, so I am a little leery of what "funk" may be hanging around. So unless I have an emergency, I buy from either IFA by Warm Springs/15 or Waukamotos up near The M. Prices are roughly the same, I prefer to support the "little guy" at Wauk's but sometimes their hours just don't jive with mine. Anyway welcome to the forum, a lot of the info you'll find is aimed at other areas of the country, Vegas is really unique so just remember that when reading threads.

On a totally unrelated note, does anyone on here keep ornamental pheasants? I am thinking about my next project being to build a couple of nice aviaries for some ornamentals ... not interested in breeding, I just love the look of the colorful males. I would get peacocks but really would prefer that my neighbors NOT hate me, and I already run a risk because I have more than 3 dogs. I am surrounded by mostly country horsey people, but you just never know! I know the pheasants aren't as quiet as chickens, but they also aren't noisier than a rooster! Soooo...... any Vegas pheasant folk reading this?

Tiff, thanks for all the info! Any insight/experiences with CAL Ranch on Jones/95? That's where we got our current supplies, we're in their area regularly so if they are a good/better vendor than what is closer, we'll likely stick with them.

I know where CAL Ranch is but I have never shopped there, I want to go check it out some time. Also there is a hispanic feed store in North LV that has really good prices but I have never shopped there either

We used to live less than 5 minutes away, and never knew it was there! Then my co-worker (who lives in Henderson!) told me about it when I found Bubbi.

It's a pretty cool place, and the guy who helped us while we were there (I didn't think to catch his name) was really nice and helpful. I think I'll most likely stick with shopping there since I am down the street to visit my parents on a weekly basis anyway. :)

I really got spoiled when I lived in Missouri, feed stores everywhere as well as small animal auctions every weekend within an hour, even some exotic auctions, but I guess we should be grateful for what we have :D

Yeah, I grew up in Eastern Washington, I was also spoiled with the abundance of supplies and such.

Also, an update on the girls for anyone keeping tabs, when I got home today they were both in the outdoor run and Bubbi actually looked calm/relaxed and was dirt bathing with Bertha fairly close to her. So, maybe they'll be just fine together :)

Great to hear about your gals. Dust bathing just cracks me up and I think that birds are more settled when they are doing their thing.

Ive been to Cal Ranch. I get a few things there. Its a nice place but I never see anyone there so wonder how long they can stay open if no one is buying. I did find out last weekend that they sell straw bales for $8.50. That's a great deal! They have bunnies if someone is looking for one. Before I got my incubator, I was always looking for pullets. They don't sell them. But I heard that V and V Tack does. Never called to follow up on that lead.

On my egg travels found someone who has Welsummers in CA. Thought about buying some eggs from them. And maybe a sussex or two :)

TiffinNV....how are you chicks doing?

The girls were out together and mingling with very minimal pecking or running. Bubbi cracks me up, though. She scares herself when she flaps her wings and runs all over the place trying to get safe. She is also "standing up" to Bertha and actually took a couple of hesitant pecks at her this afternoon!

Hopefully this means they will tolerate each other enough. Bertha actually follows Bubbi around, albeit somewhat hesitantly and at a distance. I think they WANT to be with each other, they're both just trying to figure out how that works. LOL

I put a decoy egg in the nesting boxes to see if it might encourage them. :)

I know that when my hens go on egg strike I up their protein and they start laying again. Get some live crickets from Petco (petsmart is too expensive) and feed them that. If nothing else they both will love you for it.

Is anyone from here offering the Black Copper Marans on CL?
