Vote--------Is it better to build an 8' by 12' or an 8' by 8'?

Definitely bigger.

We just finished an 4' x 6' coop for 6 hens, and I'm already wanting to get more chickens and add on to the coop. But that won't be a possibility due to our residential neighborhood, and town ordinances.

Build it big for those of us who can't (right now).

decide how big you want to build it,then triple that, then you can add on later,,

Well I cant make it too big becuse I am on a tight budget because Im only 13!!!!! lol

I guess I will try to make it 8 by 12. I dont know what my parents would say though, lol

Thanks for all the replies! I was thinking that I could find so much stuff pretty cheap. I already have my own nail gun, miter saw, drill, hand tools, and lots of experience! lol.

The only thing now is convincing my parents to let me build a 8' by 12' coop! That is going to be hard.

Anyone got any ideas?

tell them every project they let you start is getting you experience which will make you more employable when you leave school. i mean, would they rather you were sitting on an xbox all day then working at mcdonalds for the rest of your life, because if not, they have to let you build this coop...they'll be failing as parents if they don't.

Have you considered a storage area for you feed, watering cans and such? If you don't need this space now then maybe you could use it for storage now and expand later if you need to.

My son would tell me it was extra space for my lawn mower or something LOL
